Technical Introduction to the Study of 3.125Gbps LVDS Cables
Comparison of the differential loss characteristics (Sdd21) of two cables.
The maximum transfer speed according to the LVDS standard is 3.125 Gbps. We examined cables capable of transmitting over a distance of 3 meters without an equalizer at this data rate. We compared the differential loss characteristics (Sdd21) of two cables: one using the HFS connector and the other using the HSMDR connector. In the range of 0-2.5 GHz, the loss of the HFS connector is lower, but the knee frequency is slightly higher for the HSMDR. In the frequency range where the reflected and transmitted signals are equal, the performance of the HFS connector prevails. As a result, it was confirmed that both the 3-meter cable using the HFS connector and the 3-meter cable using the HSMDR connector can be used for 3.125 Gbps communication without an equalizer, with sufficient margin.
